Iowa State University is located in Ames, Iowa and features some of the best academic programs in the nation. I'm currently a student at Iowa State, majoring in Meteorology, which is a part of the Liberal Arts & Science college. In order to graduate from Iowa State within the college of Liberal Arts and Science as well as the Meteorology program there are several requirements. The college of LAS (Liberal Arts and Science) requires you to take electives in several categories, including Social Science, Arts and Humanities as well as Sciences. Within the Meteorology Departement there are several more requirements that include taking Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, Differential Equations, etc. All of which help the students within the program to be some of the best in the nation. Most of the requirements that I have listed so far fall under the 'Pre-Professional' program, where as the 'Professional' program in meteorology features the classes that many meteorologists are accustomed to hearing. Those include dynamics, synoptics, atmospheric physics, mesoscale forecasting, etc... Several requirements within the professional program also exist, including taking specified amounts of upper-level classes and meteorological electives. While attending Iowa State there are several opportunities that I have taken advantage of, including becoming a part of the local chapters of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. Both of these local chapters are award winning local chapters, as they were both named 2006 Chapter of the Year and 2005-2006 Student Chapter of the Year repsectively. The ISU AMS has also been on the Honor Roll for student chapters every year for the past 7 years. I have taken a role in each of these chapters, being a member of the Cabinet in the Iowa State AMS as a Sophomore Chair and as the Social Char. I am also the local manager for Iowa State in the WxChallenge, a national collegiate forecasting contest. I have been a part of the Agenda committee for the Central Iowa NWA's Severe Storms and Doppler Radar Conference for my entire membership with them, I'm currently the secretary of the organization for the '07-'08 year. I'll provide you with links to both of those chapter webpages as well for you to browse:

Two other web pages that I am in charge of deal directly with Iowa State as well, one being my online portfolio that the meteorology department requires us to make. This is used as an advising tool for students as well just a good indicator of what some of the options can be in your classes during your tenure at the university. Mine contains a brief explanation of some of my goals, but is mainly used as my 4-year plan to indicate what classes I will likely be taking in the future and to make sure that all requirements are met so that I can graduate on time. The other web page that I have designed is for the forecast contest, WxChallenge, that I am the local manager for. This page is mainly filled with links for quick reference to aid the local forecasters when they make their forecasts. Both of them are linked below:
