April is upon us and with that comes the threat of severe weather returning to the state once again. Though Iowa only sees a small number(<10 average) of tornadoes during the month of April, it is the start of the severe weather season. Interesting fact — on April 11, 2001, Iowa saw the most tornadoes in 1 day (28). I urge everybody to check their weather radios and their emergency preparedness plans.
After a chilly start to the week (freeze watch currently in effect for almost the entire state as I type this) storms return to the forecast for the end of the week into the weekend. Depending on timing and a few other factors, I’m hoping to be out chasing later this week. Stay tuned!
On another note, with the wacky (technical term) weather this year, the tulips in Pella have bloomed extra early this year. Pella for those that don’t know, hosts its annual Dutch festival on the first weekend of May every year. Typically the tulips are in full bloom during the festival. However this year, mother nature decided to get things going a lil early. Being nice out today, I decided to take a little trip to Pella and shoot a few tulips. Needless to say, there were several hundred people out doing the same thing! Parking at a number of locations was at a premium. My photos are posted below.
