What can I say other than today had a slight glimmer of hope. A triple point set-up was poised to move across the state following a round of storms during the early morning hours. We had CAPE, we had decent LI’s of -4 to -6, and even a little helicity to help things along. BUT as usual, the great Iowa CAP kicked our butts again.
Luckily, I decided last night to base out of the ol homestead instead of wasting my valuable $3.29 fuel. So at least I did something right today. I know at least a few chasers who traveled to southern Iowa in hopes of seeing the first storms of the season, only to be disappointed like we have been on so many occasions. There’s always next time!
Posted below are the surface map and also the initial 0600 outlook from the SPC.
On another note, Tuesday of this week looks very interesting at this point. Let’s just hope things hold off until I get off work!
