Last year, close friend Willard Sharp and myself began an annual photography expedition called “Combine Chasing”. This of course is a play on our storm chasing hobby. Iowa has some of the best landscapes anywhere and the fall harvest is one of my favorite times of year.
This year, we opted for the West Central portion of Iowa. We spent a Saturday afternoon in Mid-October wondering the back roads of Carroll and Greene Counties in search of farm implements in action. Even with the continued dry and sunny conditions, the farmers were not real cooperative, though we did manage to find a few. Here’s a few of my images from that day.
After grabbing an evening meal in Carroll, Iowa, we headed back out in hopes of finding that perfect sunset scene. Luckily, we managed to find it! Not only did Mother Nature treat us to a spectacular sunset, we also managed to find some appropriate foreground subjects.
The 2nd Annual Combine Chase was a great success overall and I’m looking forward to traversing a different section of the state next year!
